Not every gummy smile is a gum problem. Some are caused by a short upper lip, an over-mobile lip or the position of the upper jaw. We measure tooth length, lip movement and bone level first — lip-lowering with muscle relaxant or orthodontics can be the better answer.
Laser contouring heals in a week or two with only mild tenderness. If bone recontouring was needed, allow six to twelve weeks for the tissue to fully mature before placing veneers or crowns.
