What are white spot lesions on teeth?

White spot lesions are early signs of enamel demineralisation — areas where the tooth surface has lost minerals and become more porous than the surrounding enamel. They commonly appear as post-orthodontic marks after braces, as the earliest stage of decay, or from developmental causes such as fluorosis. As well as weakening the tooth, white spots stand out against your natural smile and can affect your confidence.

How does ICON resin infiltration work?

ICON uses a low-viscosity resin to infiltrate the porous enamel beneath the surface of the white spot. Because the resin shares the light-refracting properties of healthy enamel, the white spot blends seamlessly back into the tooth.

  • The tooth surface is gently cleaned and isolated.
  • A mild etching gel opens up the porous enamel.
  • The ICON resin is infiltrated into the lesion and light-cured.
  • The tooth is polished — no drilling, no injections, no recovery.

The whole treatment usually takes around 45–60 minutes per area.

Who is ICON white spot treatment for?

ICON is ideal for patients with post-orthodontic white spot lesions after braces or aligners, early enamel caries that have not yet cavitated, and mild to moderate fluorosis marks. It is suitable for both adults and teenagers and works well alongside whitening or composite bonding as part of a complete cosmetic plan.
