Shop-bought guards are thick where you do not need it and thin where you do, and they rely on you clenching to hold them in place. A custom guard has controlled thickness over the biting surfaces and front teeth, hugs the gum line and does not obstruct your airway — so it stays in when you talk, shout or breathe hard.
If you wear fixed braces we make a guard with extra room to accommodate the brackets, protecting both your teeth and your lips. Children and teenagers grow quickly, so expect to remake a guard every 12–18 months, or sooner if new teeth come through.
