How much do dental X-rays cost in London?

Individual dental X-rays at Sure Smile Clinic start from £15, and are usually included in the cost of a new patient examination. A panoramic OPG view is quoted separately.

Are dental X-rays safe?

Yes. Digital dental X-rays use a very low dose — a couple of bitewings is similar to a few days of ordinary background radiation. We only take images when they will genuinely change your care.

How often will I need X-rays?

Typically every 12–24 months for adults, depending on your risk of decay and gum disease. Low-risk patients may need them far less often.

Can I have X-rays while pregnant?

We normally postpone routine X-rays during pregnancy. If you have pain or infection, urgent imaging can be taken safely with appropriate precautions.

Can I get copies of my X-rays?

Yes — we can email your images to you or transfer them securely to another dentist or specialist on request.

Types of X-ray we take

Bitewings — check for decay between the back teeth
Periapicals — show the whole tooth including the root tip
OPG / panoramic — a single wide view of both jaws, wisdom teeth and joints
CBCT — 3D imaging for implant and complex surgical planning, referred where needed

Is it safe?

A pair of digital bitewings gives a dose comparable to a few days of natural background radiation. We follow strict justification rules: no X-ray is taken unless it will change your diagnosis or treatment, and we always use the lowest dose that produces a diagnostic image.

Pregnancy and children

Routine X-rays are usually deferred during pregnancy unless there is an urgent problem, and we will discuss this with you. For children we use small sensors, shorter exposures and only image when there is a genuine clinical reason such as suspected decay or a missing adult tooth.
