Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a fixed, natural-looking way to replace one or more missing teeth — restoring your bite, your smile and your confidence. Our dentist in St Albans crafts bridges that feel just like your own teeth.

  • Fixed in place — no removable plate
  • Restores chewing and clear speech
  • Stops adjacent teeth from drifting
  • Natural-looking ceramic finish
  • Typically completed in 2–3 visits
  • Long-lasting with good oral hygiene

What is a dental bridge?

A bridge is a custom-made restoration that uses your existing teeth (or dental implants) on either side of a gap to support one or more replacement teeth, called pontics. The whole bridge is bonded permanently in place — you can't remove it.

Most modern bridges at our St Albans practice are made from lithium-disilicate (e-max) or zirconia ceramic, giving you a strong, biocompatible result that looks like natural enamel.

Types of bridges we offer

  • Conventional bridge — pontics supported by crowns on the teeth either side of the gap.
  • Cantilever bridge — supported by a crown on only one side, used in selected cases.
  • Maryland (resin-bonded) bridge — minimally invasive, with thin metal or ceramic wings bonded to the back of adjacent teeth.
  • Implant-supported bridge — pontics supported by dental implants instead of natural teeth, ideal when several teeth in a row are missing.

Your dentist will recommend the option that best suits your tooth position, bite, gum health and aesthetic goals.

Bridge or implant — which is right for you?

Both bridges and implants are excellent ways to replace missing teeth. Bridges are typically faster (a few weeks rather than several months) and can be a good option when the adjacent teeth already have large fillings or crowns. Implants don't rely on neighbouring teeth and help preserve jaw bone. We'll discuss both options openly with you at your consultation in St Albans.
